You've somehow or another stumbled across the website for the Wichita Bulk Grain buy Information. We's buyin' a pallet folks!
Here is where we currently stand:
Prices, freight, and availability are based on ordering through Mid Country Malt. We have a collaborative spreadsheet going that Lance pilfered from HomebrewTalk.com and modified - it's a Google document and should be viewable to everyone (with or without a Google account - shoot off an email if you're having problems).
Click here to view the spreadsheet
The partial bag section is based on 5 lb units (e.g. currently Lance is down for 2 of the crystal 40L which would be 10lb). As expected, each unit in the full bag section represents a full bag (either 50 lbs or 55 lbs). The spreadsheet dynamically adjusts the price per lb as the shipping becomes distributed over more bags. The price you will pay per pound is in green. This includes all overhead costs including shipping and a surcharge to cover expenses. This price will go down as more grain is added and will go up if we are unable to distribute the partial bags completely and have to drop something off the order.
As for availability, you are not limited to what is currently on the spreadsheet. You are welcome to order a full bag of anything that Mid Country Offers - don't hesitate to request a small amount (5 lb increments) of something that no one else has ordered. If you would like 10 lbs of pale chocolate malt, let us know and we'll add it to the list.
There are also other things on the product list such as cleaning supplies, yeast nutrients, malt extract, hops (in 11lb increments), etc. Let me know if there is something else you would like thrown on the pallet. Briess Malt extract is a really good price.
The surcharges are set up to cover unexpected costs and the costs of bagging the split bags. We will handle the finances through The Derby Brew Club, and the club will keep any profit.
This is a great deal - look at prices from some of the major homebrew supply stores such as More Beer or Northern Brewer.
example:
If you brewed just 20 times a year you would use around 160lbs of base grain. If you were buying that as 2-row from northern brewer by the pound you'd spend $240 but if you bought that same 2-row through this deal you'd only spend around $100 - less than half price.
Remember, the prices are not yet set in stone. They will fluctuate according to order volume. The only guarantee is that prices will be crazy good.
